Dr. Walter E. Saxon, Jr. D.D.S.
Dr. Saxon has lived his whole life in Buckingham, except for the 8 years that he was in Richmond for school, concluding with his graduation from MCV School of Dentistry in 1982. He enjoys life in the country and its easy access to other parts of Virginia. He began his education at Buckingham Elementary School in the first grade. He graduated from Buckingham County High School in 1974.
He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1978 with a BS in Biology. While at UR, he worked in the sports information office. He was at almost all home football, basketball and baseball games, helping record the stats or keeping the scorebook. He was also a Track and Field official and got to witness a world record in the high jump at UR in 1977. It should therefore not be a surprise that he is an avid “Spider”. He was present for UR’s first post season basketball victories (including over Auburn with Charles Barkley) and the 2008 National Football Championship.
Dr. Saxon started a private practice in the town of Dillwyn in August 1982. In 1993, he built a larger office between Sprouses Corner and Dillwyn, where he remains today. Prevention and patient education have always been a key to his practice. When he first started, many of his patients didn’t understand about periodontal (gum) disease. Today when a patient has their teeth cleaned and calculus removed, patients don’t usually question it. He’s had over 30 years experience restoring dental implants so patients can wear dentures comfortably or replace teeth without using dentures. He’s worked with all ages of patients, from under age 1 to over 100. He’s had hospital privileges at Centra Southside Community Hospital since 1982. Cases done there are those with treatment needs that are better handled in a hospital setting. Dr. Saxon currently holds an affiliate appointment as an Assistant Professor at MCV School of Dentistry. He started there in 1992, working with students to diagnose and treat emergency patients.
In his spare time he enjoys gardening, outdoor activities, watching the Atlanta Braves and volunteering with Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, Maysville Presbyterian Church, and Buckingham County Youth League (the highlight of this was probably winning the Virginia Majors Tournament in 2015 and the first game Virginia played in the World Series). He enjoys helping patients improve their health and quality of life. Dr. Saxon’s experience allows patients access to treatments that aren’t common, but beneficial. He looks forward to practicing dentistry and interacting with patients. He feels that humor and a positive outlook are needed (and sometimes a squirt of water) when doing dentistry.
Dr. Reema Rawal, D.D.S
Dr. Reema Rawal immigrated alone from Nepal to the U.S. for college at the age of 18. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Houston- Downtown with a degree in Chemistry/ Biochemistry. Later moving to Virginia she obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry graduating in May of 2022.
In August of 2022 Dr. Rawal joined our practice with her feet running. Dr. Rawal resides in Richmond, VA with her husband and makes the commute to Dillwyn daily to be a part of our team.
Why is she passionate about Dentistry?
Dr. Rawal lived her childhood in a remote village of Nepal without access to dental or medical care. Therefore, having lived on that side of the fence, she truly understands how important the access to dental services is to under served communities. Her goal is to be able to serve people with her knowledge and compassion.
